2011 Clean Water Classic
If you're looking to get your Pro/Am surf contest on, then you should probably head over to the website for the Clean Water Classic. This year's Westport, WA blowout will be going off May 13th through the 15th and registration is now open. Judges will be looking for "vertical and committed" surfing, so you better bring your A game. There will be food, a beer garden, and TapWater will be doing their thing on the stage.
Most importantly, the contest is a fundraiser for the Pacific Northwest chapters of the Surfrider Foundation (they're looking for more volunteers to help out with the event, so give them a hand if you can). On Saturday May 14th, Surfrider volunteers will join forces with the nonprofit Warm Current to host a surf camp for underprivileged kids from Seattle and other kids at the event. Warm Current will also be collecting usable (don't bring that nasty, urine-soaked, fin-cut, 3/2mm) wetsuits, booties, gloves, and boards to use for future camps. Get generous. Pro longboarders Kapono Nahina, Kekoa Uemura, Bonga Perkins and Scotty Fong will be helping out with the kids' camp and doing an expression session after for the groms to vote on.
See you there.
